Aquinas College Dunedin

At Total Tactiles, we understand the importance of creating spaces that are both safe and visually harmonious. We’re please to have been responsible for the tactile safety solutions for Aquinas College, one of the iconic residential colleges at the University of Otago in Dunedin. Working under Naylor Love, we knew this project would require a careful balance between modern safety solutions and respect for the heritage of the institution.

Stair Nosings

For the internal and external stairs, we installed Tredfx DKR103 black stair nosings. These stair nosings not only provide critical slip resistance, but they also blend seamlessly with the College's existing design. The black finish adds a sleek, modern touch while meeting safety regulations. The DKR103 nosings are known for their durability and subtle design, making them an ideal choice for high-traffic areas like Aquinas College.

Custom Tactile Pavers

In addition to stair nosings, our team also created custom terracotta-coloured tactile concrete pavers for the exterior areas. These pavers were designed with the university’s heritage in mind combining the traditional heritage colours with the safety of modern tactile solutions. Not only do the pavers look visually appealing but they also provide guidance for those with visual impairments. Their textured surface ensures that anyone navigating the campus can do so safely, especially in high-traffic zones or wet Dunedin weather.
